Silt man dies in tanker-truck rollover

RIFLE – A Silt man was killed when a tanker-truck he was driving rolled over on Mamm Creek Road south of Rifle Monday.
John Baker, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baker was heading southbound at about 3:55 p.m. when the truck went off the right side of the road and rolled down a small embankment, according to a Colorado State Patrol press release. He was not wearing a seat belt and died from his injuries.
Rifle Fire Chief Mike Morgan said the tanker, with a capacity of 8,000 to 10,000 gallons, was carrying some kind of hydrocarbons ” probably condensates related to oil and gas development. He said emergency response crews had contained the tanker’s contents and were preparing to remove them from the tanker Monday evening.
Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
