Sick to death of shopping? Go to hospital

Aspen Times Staff

Think it’s too early for holiday shopping?Well think again – there’s nothing like getting a good jump on all of the December madness. The gift shop at Aspen Valley Hospital is holding a holiday bazaar tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring baked goods and a wide gift selection. The shop opened in 1977 and is now called Sally’s Gift Shop, after the store’s chief buyer, Sally Vroom, who died four years ago. The shop is entirely run by volunteers, and all proceeds from the shop go to Aspen Valley Hospital.Last year, money raised by the gift shop went toward a patient monitor for the same-day surgery department, two epidural pain management pumps and two infant medication infusion pumps for the OB/perinatal unit, and a new scale for the patient care unit. While that’s a lot of stuff for a hospital gift shop to provide for, the store’s buyers pride themselves on picking out more than greeting cards and packs of gum.Sally’s Gift Shop features a wide assortment of picture frames, pillows, jewelry, shelves of colorful stuffed animals and children’s clothing. Most recently the shop added gifts for “tweens,” including pads, pens and colorful jewelry.Parking for the holiday bazaar is free in the front lot of Aspen Valley Hospital on Castle Creek Road. The shop is located to the right of the main lobby.
