Shunned by the census

Dear Editor:

I am very appalled at what I read in the paper this morning! I took my census test at the beginning of February and scored 94 percent; I was told to expect a call soon as the census started on March 1. Well, here it is the 20th of March, and I have not had a call yet!

I live in Pitkin county and was told that there was a shortage of help up here and to expect at least 40 hours per week until probably September. As I have been unemployed for the last year and can’t get unemployment as I am self-employed this was a godsend to me! I just read in the paper that they have brought in census workers from Colorado Springs and are housing them at the Molly Gibson in Aspen, paying over $100 per day per person and here I sit with no work.

What the hell is going on? I am so upset that these people came over here and are doing my job; I was really counting on getting out there and making some money so I don’t lose my house and I would like to eat, too. Is this what my tax dollars are being wasted on? What a joke!
