Show guts, Basalt

Dear Editor:

Basalt’s entrance is extremely convoluted and embarrassing. One million flashing signs and the lights of Vegas would not solve the mystery of entering downtown Basalt or the Southside/Basalt Business Center. Great civic centers are well-designed, easy to access and navigable without the visual noise of misplaced, incongruous, redundant and excessive signage.

Basalt has a great master plan to solve this entrance issue, which encourages access to its businesses, promoting vitality and filling town coffers. However, it seems to lack the guts and leadership to implement this task. Don’t let the Colorado Department of Transportation and Roaring Fork Transportation Authority interests enable the continued disregard for the brave vision of this plan, which long ago set up the movement of Basalt’s entrance to Midland Avenue from where it exists today. Enough Band-Aids: Let’s use the better, more efficient big-picture solution.
