Shining Star Foundation launches toy drive

The Shining Stars Foundation is holding a toy drive in the Aspen area through Dec. 19.

The toys will be distributed at the foundation’s holiday party in Aspen later this month. The foundation brings children facing cancer or another life-threatening illness to Aspen for the annual party. The children and their siblings can pick out toys to take home for free. The holiday party is designed to ease the financial stress of the families with large medical bills to pay.

“The party also features a delicious holiday meal, carol singers and turkeys for each family,” said a statement from the foundation. “The event allows our families to come together and celebrate life, and the toys provide some relief for families under immense financial stress due to expensive medical treatments. For some children, these are the only gifts they will receive this holiday season.”

The Shining Stars Holiday Toy Drive needs toys or gift cards for children ages 1 through 18. The toys are being collected at Aspen High School, Aspen Middle School, Aspen Elks Lodge, Aspen Eagles Lodge, Garfield & Hecht, ABCD Soderberg Plumbing and Heating and the Inn at Aspen.

Other locations are U.S. Bank in downtown Aspen, El Jebel and Glenwood Springs; Alpine Bank in Snowmass Village; Heather’s, Tempranillo, Roaring Fork Club and K’Gen Asian Restaurant in Basalt.
