RAWLINS, Wyo. – Carbon County officials say a Colorado man is missing and presumed drowned while kayaking on the Encampment River.

Carbon County Sheriff Jerry Colson identifies the missing kayaker as 35-year-old Brian Stothart of Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Colson says Stothart and four friends launched their kayaks into the Encampment River from Commissary Park on Saturday. Stothart disappeared in a stretch of the river called Damnation Alley. Searchers later found his flotation vest downstream.

Colson says searchers using an airplane flew over about 50 miles of the Encampment and North Platte rivers on Tuesday without finding Stothart. He says the search will resume in coming weeks when the water level drops off.
