Sheriff Joe DiSalvo is surrounded by women

Dear Editor:

In response to Ruth Harrison’s letter concerning Joe DiSalvo’s “bias” against strong women (“Double standard,” Monday, The Aspen Times): Ruth, have you met Joe’s mother? His wife? His sister? All very strong women.

As a matter of fact, Joe surrounds himself with strong women as his friends, his colleagues and his deputies. Ann Stephenson didn’t make a “mistake.” She rammed into a car, tore the mirror off and, in full view of several people, drove away. Do you want this woman defending you in a bad situation? Do you want this woman as your deputy partner when someone pulls a gun?

The “mistake” wasn’t that she had an accident; the mistake was the incredibly bad judgment in not apologizing to the driver of the car and not reporting it immediately. I greatly appreciate the decision to let Stephenson go, as I would not want her anywhere near me when I needed help.

Also, let the Jimmy’s incident go – it was years ago, and he was defending his wife.
