Shame on you
Dear Editor:Scott Chaplin, shame on you!Mr. Chaplin threatens, as a Carbondale town trustee, to lobby against the new Montessorri program after 150 children’s parents have worked very hard to offer a world-renowned, open educational experience available to all children of Carbondale should be rebuked in the strongest means and terms. Mr. Chaplin, for years Carbondale Elementary School has been in the decline and has been placed on probation as a “failing school.” The senior school administration in Glenwood rebuked the good faith efforts of Montessori teachers/parents/local administration and compromised the teaching/learning methodology so it could no longer function as it should. The reputation of CES throughout the valley is that if you have kids, do not live in Carbondale. We know that over the last few years, 300 to 400 Carbondale children have fled the school system to receive a better education. We now have two charter schools in Carbondale established to better serve our community. It should be viewed by our Hispanic community as a good action that will allow all our children the opportunity to have another option for quality education and not be stuck in a failing school. Scott Chaplin’s segregation assessment is an ignorant insult to our Montessori parents and ignores the core issues that dictated the founding of the Ross Montessori charter school. He has fallen into Fred Wall’s “trap” one more time and he should be ashamed of himself, as I am now ashamed of him. And to think that we voted someone with this poor judgment to be town trustee to support our community.William HanischCarbondale
