Selling out, nonstop |

Selling out, nonstop

Dear Editor:

Former Aspen doctor “Bugsy” Barnard would be pleased with the school board’s recent decision to remove the corporate advertising billboard seen on the back of the athletic field scoreboard. Back in the day, before even Pitkin County had sign codes, Doc Barnard solved the billboard problem with a chain saw. This was the inspiration for Ed Abbey’s character Doc Sarvis in the “Monkeywrench Gang.”

Today, maybe we could also pass a local code to deal with the offensive advertising inserts in the daily newspapers. What a waste of natural resources, and all for the nonstop sell-out of Aspen.
