Selling fear

I am for Base Village. I am against obese village.

Along with hundreds of others, I attended the public forum meetings hosted by the town regarding the applicants’ desire to grossly exceed the growth perimeters for Base Village.

Intrawest, the Aspen Skiing Co. and the Town Council all failed in convincing me that we need huge residential and commercial development on this property. The only justification that I heard loud and clear was a weak argument that without obese village, we would fail as a resort.

Please, if you’re going to sell fear, make me fearful of something more significant than a mere market correction for this resort.

“A selfish desire beyond reason” (better known as greed) is a very ugly energy, and it is making my home town of 26 years an ugly place to live. Because of this, I am strongly supporting the efforts of the Citizens for Responsible Growth.

Thank you, CRG, for having the courage to face this issue with truth and patience. You stand for something much more important than maximum profits, and you have restored my faith in the political system. For that I am grateful.
