Seeking witty letters

Dear Editor:Aspen scribes should salivate with anticipation at the upcoming Freddie Fisher Irreverent Wit Prize for letters to the editor. The coveted “FishWit Prize” will be awarded in June. There is still time for letters to be written and submitted for publication to the papers. If the dearth of wit in this town is as profound as many in Vail, Hotchkiss or Leadville would submit, then we may have to retire the coveted FishWit before some outsider claims it. To be honest, we haven’t seen many interesting letters to the editor lately, so the prize may simply be withdrawn for the year and retained by last year’s winner, Roger Marolt.Imagine the big head Roger will get if no one steps forward to challenge his claim to the shimmering golden bass trophy (currently on display at the Aspen Historical Society) and the certain prestige that comes with it. Pretenders to the prize should throw down the gauntlet to Mr. Marolt so a fair competition can be held and he can be given a chance to defend the title of FishWit with dignity.Sharpen your pencils. Send that letter to the editor. We will be watching and waiting.Greg PoschmanAspen
