SALIDA, Colo. ” Search and Rescue crews resumed efforts Tuesday to find a 23-year-old hiker missing in the Monarch Pass region of Chaffee County.

Sheriff Tim Walker says Chad Koch of Howard, Colo., hasn’t been seen or heard from since late Monday afternoon.

It’s not known whether Koch is an experienced hiker or has backcountry survival skills. More than 18 inches of snow have fallen in the search area, and overnight temperatures were below zero.

Walker says authorities have called in a Summit County search dog team, while several snowmobilers, volunteers on horseback and family members are joining in the search.

Crews had suspended their efforts about 8:30 p.m. Monday due to bad weather.

Howard is 11 miles southeast of Salida and 105 miles southwest of Denver.
