Sculptor to give lecture in Snowmass

SNOWMASS VILLAGE – Barry X Ball will appear Thursday in the Featured Artists Lecture Series at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village. The talk, at 12:30 p.m. in the Schermer Meeting Hall, is free, though reservations are necessary. To make a reservation, call 970-923-3181.

The California-born, New York-based Ball creates sculpture portraits using marble, onyx and jade. His work was honored at the 2011 Venice Biennale, and in December, he will have a solo exhibition at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach. Ball’s art has been shown at the PS 1 Contemporary Art Center, SITE Santa Fe and the Beijing Today Art Museum. The collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Norton Museum of Art, the Berlingieri Collection and others include Ball’s pieces.

On July 19, Kara Walker will appear in the series, with a lecture at 5 p.m. Also coming to speak are James Casebere (July 26), Rashid Johnson (Aug. 2), Tom Sachs (Aug. 7), Nick Cave (Aug. 9) and Jessica Stockholder (Aug. 23). For times and other details, go to
