Sculptor says thanks

Dear Editor:On Friday night, Sept. 30, I was honored to receive the “People’s Choice Award” for my sculpture “Love of a Child,” entered in the Art aRound Town program sponsored by the Carbondale Public Arts Commission. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the tireless work this commission has given the community, expressly to Jody Ensign, Ro Mead, Belinda Leve, Shannon Muse, Frank Norwood, Sue Edelstein, Michael Lindsay, Vicki Browne, Marilyn Murphy, Tony Coia and Chris Chacos. They are the embodiment of selfless service and most of them serve on other volunteer committees as well. An extended thank you also goes out to the public works department: Larry Ballenger, Smiley Wise, Ken Beck, Aaron Mayes and David Odom, who with great care installed these pieces of art around town.As an artist, it is fulfilling to have a place to show my work. As a member of a town, it is enjoyable to see the arts shared with a community for the cultural enrichment of that town. My hat’s off to these generous people who make this possible. And, by the way, a great big thank you to the commission and the town of Carbondale for purchasing “Love of a Child” for their permanent collection. I am thrilled, honored and grateful.
