School-to-Career Partnership will mark its successes tonight

Aspen Times Staff Report

Members of the Roaring Fork Valley School-to-Career Community Partnership will host a reception tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate their successes in connecting classrooms with businesses valleywide.

The partnership, now more than a year-and-a-half old, “is a state-funded program designed to link students with employers, to give kids work-based learning opportunities,” said event organizer Jeanne Golay.

“We’ve had some grants distributed and many of the valley schools have benefited,” Golay said. “The reception is to celebrate the success of the program and to recognize the participation of the business community, because it’s a cooperative effort between the businesses and the schools.

“We’re going to have some of the teachers who have gotten the grants in the past talk about what the grant meant to them, and how they were able to use them,” she added.

Golay said participating business people from around the valley, as well as area school district officials will attend.

“Our business community has been incredibly supportive of this initiative and partnered with educators to create relevant and innovative work-based learning opportunities for students,” said Rob Dolan, school-to-career director. “This event will celebrate these successes.”

Tonight’s reception will be held in the conference room of the Roaring Fork School District office, located at 1405 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs.
