School should rethink Ryan firing

Dear Editor:The firing of Rick Ryan as the Aspen High School head baseball coach was an unjust and uneducated decision. It was based solely on information from one or two players whose ideas of Rick Ryan as a person and a coach differ greatly from the rest of the team. Rick was a coach who lived Aspen Baseball. He spent his days thinking of how to make us better players and he had a unique gift of being able to teach the game to us in a way in which we could have fun and become better players. He transformed the baseball program from a team that won no games to a team that could contend with any in the Western Slope and won around 60 percent of its games. During the time I played for him, he became more than just a coach – he became a friend. I can’t see myself playing baseball for any other person and I really hope the school rethinks its decision and realizes what a big mistake they are making. Stephen BuzbeeBasalt
