School calendar incompatible with family time

Dear Editor:In response to the letter to the editor in The Aspen Times dated April 18, 2005: When do the resort workers in the Aspen area get to spend quality time with their kids on vacation? Why do we have to pull our kids out of school each year in order to have a vacation with our kids?Summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are all time frames that the workers of Aspen have to work. There is great emphasis on family time, but does the school calendar promote this? Not really. If the school system were to find that family time be an important aspect, then I would suggest that the school calendar reflect just that.I recommend that we rearrange the school calendar so that in April, after the lifts close, families have an opportunity to spend quality time together. Give us a week with our kids please.Beth HagertyAspen
