Save the ranch

Dear Editor:

A critical vote by the Pitkin County commissioners is scheduled for June 16 for the land exchange between the Sutey Ranch (513 acres) and the 2 Shoes Ranch (1,268 acres), both in Carbondale.

All of the surrounding counties and their commissioners have voted in support of this open space preservation proposal. All that is required is the Pitkin County commissioners’ support before the proposal goes to Congress. Please write the commissioners now – they need to hear from you. We have to be proactive and support a positive open space proposal so that we are not losing another ranch and looking at more development in the future.

Did you know that if this proposal goes through, public access will be maintained to Lily Lake and the BLM parcel next to 2 Shoes Ranch will be put in a conservation easement that includes public access to BLM? Also, the Sutey Ranch will not be developed, public access will be given to the north side of the Red Hill trails, and of course, the wildlife will not be run out, the water will be preserved, a new subdivision won’t be built and open space will be preserved. An old historical ranch will be saved. Please write the commissioners, the papers and attend the June 16 commissioner meeting and let them know how important this proposal is to the Roaring Fork Valley.
