Same bust, different year
Dear Editor:
I’m amused that no one has noticed the similarities between the past silver boom and subsequent bust in the 1890s and the real estate boom and bust going on now. Both were built by powerful people but the engine was fueled by the worker. Both were greed and now we bleed. When things get tough the money men quickly retreat into their protected and out-of-state compounds leaving those of us that love living here to find our way without them. We’ll survive and they’ll return and the cycle will renew itself.
The only other constant to Aspen and the surrounding areas is the timeless beauty. My thanks to some farsighted elected individuals that has kept the greed from encroaching farther and faster than it has.
