Sally Shatz a savior

Dear Editor: In regard to the Nov. 16 letter to the editor that was wondering where the help for the earthquake victims in Pakistan was from the folks in this valley, let me tell you about an incredible human being that has taken on just that very challenge of helping these people. Her name is Sallie Shatz, and she has spearheaded a project to get donations of warm, weatherproof clothing, tents, sleeping bags, etc. together for these victims. This donation drive has already proved very successful as evident by the amount of donations that showed up and was collected at Aspen Mountain Rescue. I’m talking enough clothing and gear to clothe and shelter a small village! Sallie plans to drive this loaded truck to Golden where U.S. Customs will take charge of seeing all of these generous donations are delivered overseas to Pakistan under the name of Alpine Community of Colorado. I, for one, applaud the great effort Sallie has undertaken and pulled off, to directly help these individuals of this most unfortunate natural disaster. It seems to me that the people of this valley have pulled together and dug down deep to help with contributions for these poor humans.Christina MetrailerBasalt
