Rudeness is inherited

Dear Editor:

I found Carolyn Sackariason’s article in today’s paper very offensive (“Wanted: three punks,” Feb. 10). First off, hate is a really harsh word and should be reserved for things like sour milk, and people like bin Laden, Hitler and Madoff.

I am a parent of a young adult who happens to snowboard, and have intentionally held jobs where I have had the privilege to serve our youth. I grow tired when older generations who have created the biggest recession in decades, ignore their own substance-abuse issues, and who give new meaning to self-indulgence insult our newest generation. Although I do not condone the bad behavior by the riders Carolyn encountered, I believe that these kids learned their rudeness from their parents. For once I would like to read an article by Carolyn blasting aggressive driving punks and make their “pathetic little lives a living hell however I could.”

This last paragraph is to Aspen’s youth: Try if you can to ignore the ranting anger of baby boomers and those with the same mindset. You are the future. I have every confidence that you will rise above their ignorance and hatred. I have every confidence that you will not make the same mistakes as past generations. Remember that your survival depends on your strength to get past those things which will drag you down, like alcohol/substance abuse and hate. If you need help with these issues, find someone to help you, now. If there is anything I can do to help you, just let me know. I’m not hard to find.
