Romero steps up

Dear Editor:The voters of Aspen are facing perhaps the most critical decision seen in many years regarding who they will elect to guide the town into the foreseeable future. It is probably not an overstatement to call this a watershed election. While there are many good people who have come forth to take on this responsibility, I strongly recommend Dwayne Romero for a seat on City Council.I was fortunate to get to know Dwayne some seven years ago as a fellow participant in Leadership Aspen. It was during that experience that I started to see the qualities Dwayne will bring as a member of council. I found him to be an individual of impeccable character and integrity, an exceptional leader and perhaps more important, an exceptional team member. This observation was confirmed when Dwayne was one of two members of our class asked to serve on the board of Leadership Aspen following graduation.Over the years, I have had a number of occasions to interact with Dwayne that only deepened my initial impressions about him. Last fall, Dwayne was one of my teammates in the 170-mile Colorado Relay. Under conditions of adverse weather, sleep deprivation, few “creature comforts” and extreme physical exertion, people tend to reveal who they really are. Simply put, Dwayne revealed himself to be the person I just described for the duration of this challenging ordeal.Throughout this letter, I have talked mostly about Dwayne the person, but this guy also will bring a highly sophisticated skill set to the council. As a graduate of West Point, a Bronze Star recipient for leadership valor in combat and an MBA from Harvard, this is one smart cookie. In short, Dwayne Romero is an outstanding individual who is offering to be of service to a community he cares deeply about. Aspen, please take him up on the offer May 8.Jeff KremerSnowmass Village
