Roaring Fork schools won’t overhaul calendar
Aspen, CO Colorado
GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” The Roaring Fork School District has temporarily shelved a plan to overhaul the school calendar.
A committee that was considering drastic changes to the beginning and ending dates of the school year, along with breaks, needs more time to come up with a recommendation, according to the latest district newsletter.
So, the committee will advise the Board of Education at its March 12 meeting to retain a calendar for 2008-09 that is similar to the one in place this school year. School will start on Aug. 25 and end on or about May 29. Spring break would be the last week of March.
School started on Sept. 4 last fall and ends on June 6.
Meanwhile, the committee will continue work on “a future calendar that meets the learning and teaching needs of a 21st century education system,” the newsletter said.
The debate will affect the school calendars in Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. The calendar committee sought public comment on six options last month, but there was no consensus on a plan.
The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that a limited-liability company has proper standing to sue the city of Aspen over its affordable-housing fees.
