Roaring Fork School District to hold informational meetings about November bond proposal

Staff report

The Roaring Fork School District is holding a series of community meetings in late September and October to inform the public about its November bond election.

The district is seeking a property tax increase in order to finance a broad array of building projects at its school sites and ancillary facilities in Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. The ballot measure seeks a total of $122 million from taxpayers and would cost property owners an additional $4.67 per month for $100,000 of home value, or $23 per month, on a $500,000 home.

Among the projects are a $29 million overhaul of Glenwood Springs Elementary School, for which the district won a $9 million state grant; a new bus-storage and maintenance facility in El Jebel that would replace existing facilities in Basalt and Carbondale; renovations of all the middle schools in all three communities; and affordable housing for district staff members in all three communities.

Here is the schedule of meetings:

• Today, Glenwood Springs Elementary School gym, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

• Tuesday, Carbondale, Bridges High School, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
