Road closure and course info for USA Pro Challenge race

Editor’s note: With the USA Pro Challenge cycling race set to kick off Monday in Aspen, taking racers on a three-loop course that includes Snowmass, motorists will encounter a number of road closures and detours. The following breakdown shows what’s in store for today, Sunday and Monday in the Aspen-Snowmass area. Also see the maps on pages A7 and A9.
Event Information
Monday is Stage 1 between Aspen and Snowmass Village. Tuesday is Stage 2, leaving Aspen via Independence Pass.
Race route Monday
Race impacts will begin at noon and last four hours.
Aspen — During the race, there will be no vehicular traffic into or out of Aspen (via Highway 82 or Power Plant Road), with the exception of RFTA and emergency vehicles. Eastbound Highway 82 will be turned around at Owl Creek Road.
Snowmass Village — There will be no vehicular traffic into or out of Snowmass Village (via Brush Creek Road or Owl Creek Road).
Race route Tuesday
Aspen — Starting at 10:10 a.m., the course will not be accessible to vehicles. Independence Pass will close to vehicle traffic at 9 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. eastbound, and 7:10 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. westbound.
Travel Management
Monday — Entire race route closed noon to 4 p.m. along Highway 82 from Aspen to Owl Creek Road as well as Owl Creek Road, Brush Creek Road, Medicine Bow, Upper Ranch Road, Juniper Hill Road, Smith Hill, W/J, McLain Flats, Cemetery Lane, Power Plant Road, Smuggler Street (from Power Plant Road to First Street), First Street (from Smuggler Street to Bleeker Street), Bleeker Street (from First to Mill Street), Mill Street (from Bleeker Street to Main Street), Main Street (from Spring Street until Castle Creek Bridge), Garmisch Street from Main Street to Hopkins Avenue, Aspen Street from Main Street to Hyman Avenue and Hopkins Avenue from Monarch Street to Garmisch Street. Motorists should travel before noon or after 4 p.m.
Tuesday — Vehicles will be rerouted through the traffic detour to avoid closed streets.
Independence Pass will close to vehicle traffic at 9 a.m. eastbound and 7:10 a.m. westbound until approximately 2 p.m.
Parking and Transit
Monday — Event parking will be at the Intercept Lot at the intersection of Brush Creek Road and Highway 82. The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority will provide continuous bus service into Aspen until noon and after 4 p.m. and during the race, as the race allows.
Tuesday — Independence Pass Day parking from mile marker 55 to 65 (dawn until dusk)
Normal parking restrictions will apply in town.
Biking
Independence Pass has no restrictions on bicycles except as the race passes.
Camping is in designated areas only. Day parking from mile marker 55 to 65 (dawn until dusk) along Highway 82, Independence Pass.
