Rita Heeke-Horne of Aspen passed away peacefully July 15, surrounded by family and friends in the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. Rita had a very brief and difficult battle with ovarian cancer. Born July 2, 1959, in Liberal, Kan., she was the daughter of Lloyd and Mary Ann Heeke.

Survivors include; her husband Tim Horne of the Roaring Fork Valley, father Lloyd Heeke, brothers; Keith Heeke, Phil Heeke and Les Heeke of Great Bend, Kan., sisters; Nonette Clemens of Lewisburg, Penn., LaVonne Reiser of San Antonio, Texas, and 15 nieces and nephews. Her mother, Mary Ann Heeke, preceded her in death.

Rita always cherished the time she was able to spend rafting, camping, fishing, skiing, biking, ballooning, sitting around the campfire or just playing with her nieces and nephews, or any one of the many kids that she was lucky enough to know. She will always be remembered for her generous heart and contagious smile.

Rita was a person who enjoyed life and loved to share the joy of life with others. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Rita’s life is being planned.
