Rifle imposes watering restrictions

RIFLE, Colo. ” For the first time, Rifle residents are being put on even- and odd- numbered watering restrictions, effective Monday.
The restrictions are being put in place due to increasing demands on the city’s Graham Mesa water treatment plant, according to City Manager John Hier.
“Watering for lawn and other outdoor irrigation will be limited by requiring residents with odd-numbered addresses watering only on odd-numbered days and residences with even- numbered addresses on even-numbered days,” Hier said.
On the days watering is allowed, there is an additional restriction that prohibits watering between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
“We’re implementing this restriction due to the increased demand on the water system and the problems we’re having at the Graham Mesa water treatment plant,” Hier said. “It’s an aging plant and we’re pushing it to the max.”
The watering restrictions will remain in place until further notice. For more information about the city’s watering restrictions, residents can watch the local Channel 10 or visit rifleco.org.
