Ride the Rockies to benefit nonprofits at Aspen stop

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN ” When Ride the Rockies brings some 2,000 bicyclists through Aspen in June, it’s not just local businesses that will stand to reap the benefits from an influx of visitors. Area nonprofits stand to gain, as well.

Area nonprofits are eligible to apply for a $5,000 grant provided by the cycling event to each host town along the route. The program funds organizations that offer services for low-income children and youths through recreation, education or the arts, as well as agencies that offer literacy programs.

Grant applications are due Friday, April 3.

In addition, the city of Aspen is seeking one nonprofit group to run a Ride the Rockies beer garden on June 18. The organization that staffs the tent will get to keep all profits from beer sales, but must pay for its own liquor license. The deadline to apply is also April 3. If more than one group is interested, the city will hold a drawing to determine which nonprofit runs the tent.

For a grant application, or to be considered for the beer garden operation, contact Sally Spaulding, city community relations director, at sally.spaulding@ci.aspen.co.us or call her at 920-5082.
