Ride on, cowboys!
Dear Editor:Thank you for the lovely articles and photo essays covering the Cowboy Round-Up ranch party to support the history project: “I Remember One Horse: Last of the Cowboys,” based on historian Anita Witt’s book, and developed in cooperation with the Mt. Sopris Historical Society. The history of our valley is fascinating and offers us an in-depth microcosm of the history of the West!As part of our joint effort, the Mt. Sopris Society will receive a finished film (from American Spirit Productions) to play as a focal point for an ongoing museum exhibit outlining the history of the valley. This should ultimately attract tourists to turn off Highway 82 and come to the museum. In addition, copies of the original footage – 20 hours of interviews with the valleys ranchers – will be donated to the Mt. Sopris archives, to be housed in the future museum that the society is hoping to build. We thank all the people who selflessly worked to make this venture so much fun. We can’t complete this project without your support! Contributions for the museum or donations to bring this local history project to the valley schools next year can be made to the Mt. Sopris Historical Society, Box 2, Carbondale, CO 81623. Jolie Ramo and Anita WittCo-chairs, Cowboy History ProjectCarbondale
