Longtime valley resident Richard C. “R.C.” Mason died Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Aspen Valley Hospital following a brief illness. He was 75 years old.

Mason was born April 3, 1924, in Newark, N.J., the son of Daniel E. and Helen D. Brady Mason. He grew up in South Orange, N.J.

He graduated with a B.S. degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. Mason moved to Carbondale 32 years ago and started Western Slope Roofing.

He loved golfing, watchmaking and his many friends. He was a lovable man and all who knew him will dearly miss him.

Mason is survived by brothers Edric R. Mason and John D. Mason of Wilmington, Del., and Douglas Mason of Libertyville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Crystal River Baptist Church in Carbondale, with Pastor Darryl Reeves officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution be made in R.C.’s name to your favorite charity.
