RFTA summer bus passes available

Aspen Times Staff Report

The Roaring Fork Transit Agency has announced the details of its Zone Bus Pass for the coming summer, designed to save money for employers and employees of the Roaring Fork Valley.

The picture pass is valid for unlimited trips in certain zones during the entire summer season, from May 1 to Nov. 30, 2000.

According to Laura Mattson of RFTA, the new pass could save commuters more than 50 percent in fare costs, compared to the price of a punch pass, monthly ticket or cash fares, and employers are winners, too.

“The idea of the discounted pass is geared to employers who wish to provide their workers with transportation,” she said. “As well as providing an attractive benefit to employees, the employer receives a tax break.”

The cost of the passes differ for each of the four zones. For nonmembers of the Aspen Chamber Resort Association, an Aspen/Glenwood pass is $495; Aspen/Carbondale is $485; Aspen/El Jebel-Blue Lake is $475 and Aspen/Basalt-Snowmass is $455. For ACRA members, the prices are about 10 percent less.

If the pass is purchased on or before May 31, employers are offered a special payment plan. They are required to pay only half of the cost up front, with the balance due on June 15, 2000.

After May 31, payment in full is required.

“Basically, it’s a win-win situation. Everyone’s really happy and we get lots of people on the bus,” Mattson said.

Passes can be purchased at Rubey Park in Aspen through Friday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or from the Bus Maintenance Facility, 0051 Service Center Road (opposite the Aspen Airport), during business hours.

For payment, RFTA accepts company checks, Visa and Mastercard or cash. For more information, call Mattson at 920-1905, extension 207.
