RFTA seeks public’s input on extension

Aspen Times Staff Report

A public hearing regarding a one-year extension of the Transit Development Plan for the Roaring Fork Valley will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, at Basalt Town Hall on Midland Avenue.

The current plan is necessary to maintain eligibility for Colorado Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration transit operating and capital assistance grants.

According to Dan Blankenship, director of the Roaring Fork Transit Agency, the existing Transit Development Plan must be extended for one year so that it will conform to CDOT’s next two-year funding cycle, which covers the years 2000 and 2001.

Given RFTA’s financial constraints, the plan maintains the status quo as far as services are concerned, Blankenship said, unless additional revenue and personnel are found to operate new services. The extension would help RFTA meet its planned level of service throughout the valley in 2001, as well as meet operating costs, staffing and capital replacement needs.

A summary of the extension will be presented at the public hearing, before the RFTA board of directors votes to adopt it. The meeting is open to the public.

Those who are unable to attend may direct comments about the extension to Blankenship at 920-1905, extension 204.
