RFTA begins its offseason service

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority will reduce operations for the spring offseason beginning Monday.

The Aspen Highlands bus will cease running, but Highlands will continue to be served three times per hour by the Castle-Maroon bus.

On Monday through Friday, valley bus service will run hourly instead of twice an hour after 8 p.m. Weekend service on the valley routes will run hourly all day and evening.

On Sundays, the last bus headed upvalley will depart the West Glenwood park-and-ride lot at 10:05 p.m. The last bus headed downvalley from Aspen will leave Rubey Park at 12:15 a.m.

RFTA will keep ski racks on the buses through late April to accommodate the extended ski season on Aspen Mountain; the mountain will open on the weekends of April 17-18 and April 24-25.

Bike racks will start appearing on buses in mid-April.

Because of road work on Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs, no bikes will be allowed on buses in and out of Glenwood between the Roaring Fork Marketplace and courthouse stops. This restriction will be lifted as soon as the road work is completed, scheduled in June.

Until then, passengers can carry bikes on a bus as far downvalley as the marketplace, or as far upvalley as the courthouse stop at Seventh Street.
