RFOV seeks volunteers for Town to Town Tour
December 7, 2010
ASPEN – Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers is seeking volunteers to help with the nonprofit’s winter fundraiser, the third annual Town to Town Tour, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22.
The tour, a long-distance, non-competitive, nordic event that takes cross-country skiers from Aspen to Basalt on the Rio Grande Trail, benefits RFOV, an organization that conducts trail-building and conservation projects on the valley’s public lands throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Ski tour volunteer opportunities range from helping with registration prior to and on the morning of the event; clearing snow at event sites in Aspen, Woody Creek and Basalt; putting up signs along the course; serving as crossing guards; food setup duties and more. RFOV also can accommodate those who want to both volunteer and participate in the tour. All volunteers will receive a goodie bag and be treated to food and libations at the after-party hosted by RFOV and Basalt restaurants.
The 2011 tour will start at 10 a.m. at the Rio Grande Plaza in Aspen and finish in Basalt. Participants can either cross country ski or snowshoe the 19-mile route along the trail, with an alternate start and refreshments at Woody Creek. The tour is a family friendly event. Due to open space regulations, however, no dogs are allowed.
All levels and ages are encouraged to participate. To register, go to http://www.rfov.org or call 927-8241.
