Reward offered in bear case

Aspen Times staff
Aspen, CO Colorado

EMMA ” Information leading to those responsible for gunning down a bear near Emma will earn a $1,500 reward, according to Colorado Division of Wildlife officials.

An anonymous donor posted a $1,000 reward, and the DOW matched the offer with $500 from Operation Game Thief, its anti-poaching tip line.

A 911 call Sept. 12 alerted officials to the decaying carcass of an adult sow along the Rio Grande Trail in Emma, below Basalt, and witnesses reported two orphaned cubs in the area.

DOW staff captured and transported one cub to a rehabilitation center, but the second cub is still at large.

Officials asked anyone with information about the incident to call the Glenwood Springs DOW office at 947-2920 or the Operation Game Thief hot line at (877) COLO-OGT (265-6648).
