Rethink fluoride

Dear Editor:

I read Carolyn Sackariason’s article “Fluoride stays in Aspen’s water” (July 1) with interest.

I would urge the citizens of Aspen to rethink their position on fluoride. Much more is known about the toxicity and ill effects of fluoride than was known in 1989, when your last vote was taken. Mr. Bailey has it right. I hope you will listen to him.

I’ve been in the water-treatment business for more than 20 years and have followed the fluoridation issue closely. A high percentage of the products we sell are for the purpose of removing fluoride that cities put into water.

If given a choice, it’s best to leave it out. As Mr. Bailey points out, if you want to put fluoride in your body, it isn’t hard to find it.
