June 18, 2012
BASALT – A resurfacing project will begin Monday on two sections of Highway 82 in the midvalley.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that the work will include some delays and weekend work. It is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.
One section will be from Willits Lane upvalley to Basalt Avenue. The road will receive a 2-inch asphalt overlay, curb upgrades, guardrail upgrades and drainage improvements. The work will affect the stretch of road from mile marker 20.8 to mile marker 23.
The second section targeted for work is from Gerbazdale upvalley to Baltic Avenue, at the entrance to the Aspen Business Center. The damaged asphalt will be milled, beginning July 9. One inch of asphalt will be added to level the surface, and then it will be topped by 2 inches of new asphalt. Asphalt repairs will be made to rough joints on six bridges in Snowmass Canyon. The work will be from mile marker 30.5 to mile marker 37.6, according to CDOT.
Elam Construction, of Grand Junction, won the $5.8 million contract. There will be no delays for upvalley traffic from 6 to 9 a.m. and none for downvalley traffic from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be some weekend work causing delays as long as 20 minutes.
