Responders plan emergency drill in El Jebel

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

EL JEBEL – Highway 82 motorists approaching the main El Jebel intersection on Thursday morning may think they’ve encountered a full-scale emergency. No so (presumably). It’s a drill.

Aspen Valley and Valley View hospitals, along with multiple responders from various agencies, will take part in an emergency drill from 10 to 11 a.m. The event will simulate an accident on the highway involving hazardous materials; participants will test use of portable decontamination units as part of the exercise.

The drill is not expected to significantly slow traffic, according to Pitkin County, but motorists are urged to slow down as they approach the intersection.
