Report: Railroad interested in reviving Winter Park Ski Train

DENVER – A company that operates Colorado excursion trains is reportedly interested in reviving the Ski Train between Denver and the Winter Park resort.The Denver Post reported Wednesday it obtained a letter from Iowa Pacific Holdings to the Union Pacific Railroad about operating ski service over UP tracks.A company owned by billionaire Phil Anschutz operated the Ski Train on that route until April, when it was dropped because of costs, schedules and other problems.Chicago-based Iowa Pacific told The Post it’s premature to talk about reviving the service.The company owns railroads in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Texas and Washington.In Colorado, it operates freight and excursion trains on the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad, which runs from Walsenburg to the Alamosa area.
