Remembering Bil

Dear Editor:

It was my good fortune to visit with Bil Dunaway during the final months of his life.

Even though Bil was in a lot of pain and struggling to focus, he would always greet me with a huge smile and genuine interest in my life. One day I asked Bil how he managed to stay so cheerful under such dire circumstances. Bil pointed to his head and with total conviction and humility said, “Because I’m really smart!”

His beautiful smile said it all.
