Related faces another delay in Snowmass

SNOWMASS VILLAGE ” There are an estimated three more weeks of work below grade to go on the Little Nell Residences Snowmass, after which developer Related WestPac said it will have to send roughly 50 workers home if the company doesn’t get approvals it is seeking.

“Hopefully we won’t get to that,” said Scott Stenman, vice president of development, at Monday’s Town Council meeting. Stenman also worried that delays could affect Related’s ability to deliver the other building in this phase ” a transportation center ” by the opening of ski season next year.

The Town Council decided Monday night to delay voting on the changes until its next meeting on Feb. 16.

“We gotta get it done,” said Councilwoman Markey Butler. The developer has been asking for changes to the Little Nell Residences Snowmass for several months, arguing that it needs the changes before it can pick up permits and begin building the above grade structure ” or obtain financing in an increasingly tight credit market. Since last fall’s financial crisis, the developer has been financing the construction itself.

But council members have insisted on a temporary transportation center in return for approval of any changes. Such a center would allow valley buses to access Base Village until a more permanent version could be built.

The final vote on the matter was scheduled for Monday night, but council members agreed to continue the public hearing and delay the final vote.
