Registration opens for monster Aspen bike race

ASPEN – Looking for a fun way to fill your summer? Try pedaling a mountain bike up an estimated 11,000 feet in vertical gain over 33 miles and screaming down roughly 9,000 feet in vertical drop.

The inaugural Power of Four Mountain Bike Race will be held Sunday, Aug. 28, using single-track and double-track trails as well as roads on the Aspen area’s four ski areas. Racers will start at the base of Snowmass and end at the Sundeck atop Aspen Mountain. Racers will also negotiate terrain at Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands.

The event is a summer companion to the acclaimed Power of Four ski touring race held for the first time last March.

Competitors in the bike race can go solo or in relay teams of two or four. Registration is open at http://www.aspensnowmass.com/reg. The fee is $100 for solo racers; $175 for teams of two; and $200 for teams of four.
