Eat a hotdog with a cop and firefighter Tuesday in Basalt on National Night Out

Staff report

Several emergency-response agencies in the mid-valley will participate in National Night Out on Tuesday by hosting an event at Willits Town Center in Basalt.

The national event is in its 32nd year. It’s held to cultivate relationships between police and their communities and to promote awareness of issues, safety and neighborhood unity.

The Basalt event will be held at Triangle Park from 5 to 8 p.m. Police and Fire Department employees will be available to discuss issues with members of the public. The Basalt Lions Club will provide free food and drinks. It’s open to the public.

Law enforcement officers will be on hand from Basalt Police Department and the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters and medical personnel will be on hand from Basalt and Rural Fire Protection District.

The American Red Cross and Pitkin County Open Space and Trails also will have representatives at the event.

It also will be an opportunity for the public to meet Ryan Mahoney, the new Basalt town manager.
