Regional: Glenwood officers rescue baby in locked car
A flurry of police activity just before 5 p.m. Thursday included a call involving a very young child who had been accidentally locked inside a car east of Sayre Park.
According to Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson, officers responded to a parked car on Lincolnwood Drive, just off of Hyland Park North, where the parents were frantically trying to open the car door as temperatures inside the vehicle were soaring. Wilson described the child trapped inside as a baby.
The child had reportedly been in the vehicle for about 15 to 20 minutes, and officers ended up breaking the window to retrieve the child.
The child was unharmed, he said.
SUSPECT PULLS GUN
Around the same time, an officer responding to another incident in West Glenwood received minor injuries while making a warrant arrest on a man who was wanted on theft and burglary charges.
Andres Carrillo, 20, of Glenwood Springs tried to flee on foot and at one point pulled a handgun on the pursuing officers but did not fire the weapon, Wilson said. A records search determined that the gun had been reported stolen, he said.
After a brief scuffle with police near the Charcoal Burger restaurant on U.S. 6, Carrillo was taken into custody and lodged in the Garfield County Jail.
