The historic Redstone Castle is on the market for the first time in a decade.

The 42-room, Tudor-style mansion, also known as Cleveholm Manor, was listed for sale in the Aspen-Glenwood Springs Multiple Listing Service in mid-May for almost $7.5 million.

Tours of the famous castle are being offered as usual everyday at 1:30 p.m., a spokeswoman said. The tours will continue through the summer or until there is a closing of a sale.

The castle is owned by Redstone Castle LLC of Pasadena, California. The corporation is controlled by California businessman and part-time Aspen resident Ralli Dimitrius, who purchased it for $4 million in 2005. He brought some stability to the famed property — it had exchanged hands an estimated six times over the prior decade.

Dimitrius’ representatives said in prior interviews with The Aspen Times that he intended to restructure the property as a high-end resort, with a hotel, events venue and restaurant. He never acted on the plan, though he resurrected public tours in 2007.

Ted Borchelt, a real estate agent with Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing with his colleague, Jana Dillard. Borchelt said the Dimitrius family has enjoyed the property for the 10 years that they owned it, but they spend most of their time in California. They decided it was time to sell the castle, he said.

The information in the listing said construction started in 1897 and was completed in 1902 by industrialist John Cleveland Osgood. It included servants’ quarters, a gamekeeper’s lodge, a carriage house and a greenhouse.

The castle property includes 23,357 square feet of structures. It is considered a single-family rather than commercial property. The castle is surrounded by nearly 153 acres of land on three separate parcels, Borchelt said. It has 24 bedrooms, according to the Multiple Listing Service information. The number of bathrooms and half-baths wasn’t listed. The interior is opulently decorated.
