ASPEN – Aspen Times journalist and photographer Mary Eshbaugh Hayes will be honored at the 2013 Red Brick Arts Tribute award and benefit dinner later this year.

Put on by the Red Brick Council for the Arts, the annual fundraising event honors a local individual who promotes the arts in the Roaring Fork Valley to a level of excellence, according to a statement.

Hayes is an award-winning writer, photographer and historian. She has chronicled Aspen’s social and cultural life for six decades; her social column “Around Aspen” has run in The Aspen Times for nearly five decades.

“We are so pleased to be honoring Mary with this tribute,” said Debra Muzikar, executive director of the Red Brick Center for the Arts, in a statement. “Her accomplishments with a camera, the way she captures a moment, her understanding of what is truly important – Mary really has a gift. If society is remembered through its arts, then Aspen will be remembered through Mary’s work.

“She captured the true spirit of town. We also honor Mary for having made a difference with her financial support of local art organizations and with her weekly column providing exposure for many area nonprofits. She is an amazing person and very much deserves this award.”

The award and benefit dinner takes place at 6:30 p.m. on July 28 on the front lawn of the Red Brick Center for the Arts. For more information, call 970-429-2777, email or visit
