Read the Aspen Times Weekly interactive May 10 eEdition

The Aspen Times Weekly reaches thousands of readers in the Aspen and western Colorado region. In this edition, we profile three local fire departments and their planning for what looks to be a busy summer fire season; also, we take you to France again, teach you how to make mol, suggest a couple chardonnays and review “The Whore of Akron.”

Editor’s note: The editor’s column on page 6 criticizing the White House’s reversal last weekend about their stance on gay marriage was printed before Wednesday’s announcement by President Obama. For the record, editor Ryan Slabaugh wanted add this addendum:Well done. I appreciate the president’s candid speech on Wednesday advocating for the rights of gay Americans to marry, although we all know this should not have taken so long. It should be interesting to see how those strongly against it -in this state and others -react. Already, Mitt Romney has not disagreed with the decision; instead he just criticized the president for “flip-flopping.” As one Democratic senator said, no president has expanded civil rights and not had America’s hearts and minds follow. Either way, we have a re-energized voter base on both sides, which should strengthen the debate in the next few months. November suddenly seems like years away at this point. Thank you. Please enjoy this week’s edition.
