Re-elect a true leader

Dear Editor:

Peter Runyon has earned the right to be re-elected as Eagle County Commissioner. The current Board of Commissioners has done more to address growth, affordable housing, open space, and social services than any previous board and Peter has been a leader in those efforts.

The current commission has approved an update of the land use code that includes long sought after protection for wildlife and ridgeline views and improved affordable housing regulations. Peter has supported major open space preservation projects in the Basalt area, including the McNulty and Grange ranch agreements. In addition, Peter worked to resolve disagreements about the location of an El Jebel county road and maintenance facility in a win/win manner.

Finally, Peter has been a part of two issues that are of particular interest to me. The County Commission and Town of Basalt are working more closely than at any point in the last 15 years. The county has invested in improvements to senior services in the mid-valley and offers an excellent program for area seniors.

Peter’s opponent in this election wants to “turn back the clock” to a time when Eagle County did not have land use regulations with teeth in them and did not get involved in quality of life issues. I think that would be a big mistake.

Please vote to re-elect Peter Runyon for Eagle County Commissioner.
