Rappaport and Maley for Town Council
Dear Editor:
I think it is important to remind the voters in Basalt of Anne Freedman’s recent record on our tax dollars. Last year, as a Colorado Mountain College trustee, she voted against any tax payer relief, stating that CMC “really needed the money.” She made the argument that the size of tax increase was relatively small. Further, she claimed that a cut in property taxes would result in higher tuition. Then in December, she voted to increase tuition by 9 percent.
Basalt doesn’t need Anne the Tax and Spender during this long recession. Families need every extra dollar they can get, not higher taxes (and higher tuition). Basalt’s revenues are down. We can’t afford someone on council that will find ways to keep additional dollars for pet projects. We need people with real business experience that know it’s our money and will spend it wisely. I support Glenn Rappaport and Patrick Maley.
