Rape suspect charged with sexual assault

Aspen Times Staff Report

An Aspen resident was charged Monday with one count of sexual assault for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.

Robert John Feliciano, 18, appeared in Pitkin County District Court. Assistant District Attorney Lawson Wills said other matters related to the case were postponed until the suspect’s next court appearance on March 3.

Feliciano has also been accused of violating his probation, which he is serving for possession of a knife at Aspen High School earlier this year.

The alleged sexual assault took place in the early morning hours of Feb. 13, when the victim told police she gave Feliciano a ride home from a party. The girl told police that he raped her twice over the course of a few hours and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

Feliciano allegedly told police that he accepted a ride home from the girl, but did not remember the events that occurred afterward. He denied sexually assaulting her, but allegedly told officers, “I don’t remember having sex with her, maybe, I don’t know, I could have.”

He was first arrested for underage alcohol possession on Feb. 13, when he and the alleged victim were found under the Marolt pedestrian bridge. The girl reported the alleged attack when she and Feliciano were taken into police custody on suspicion of underage drinking.

After the girl’s report, Feliciano was charged with sexual assault and menacing during his first court appearance on Feb. 18. The charges were modified during this latest court date.

Feliciano was being held Monday at the Pitkin County Jail on $29,000 bond – $27,500 for the sexual assault charge and $1,500 for his alleged probation violation.
